Welcome to the 2025 Desert Spooktacular
at PowerKids Center

We’re so excited to invite you to this year’s Desert Spooktacular, now in its 11th year! This annual showcase is one of our favorite traditions at PowerKids — a chance for every gymnast to shine, for families to celebrate together, and for our community to gather in the spirit of old-fashioned Halloween fun.

 

🌟 What Makes Spooktacular Special

 

The Desert Spooktacular isn’t designed to be a polished, over-the-top production — it’s a small-town style event, pulled together by our dedicated parent volunteers, the Aftershock team, and our coaching staff. Think of it like the neighborhood house everyone loved visiting on Halloween: homegrown, full of heart, and unforgettable for the kids. For one special day, your child is the star of the show. You get to cheer, they get to beam with pride, and together we’ll create memories that last a lifetime.

 

💲 Cost & Fundraising

 

This year the Spooktacular is a pledge-a-thon fundraiser for PowerKids. The event itself is free for gymnasts, and families are invited to collect pledges through 99Pledges to support the gym. Families will receive emails to setup their fundraising accounts through 99pledges website.

    •    $75 – Desert Spooktacular leotard

    •    $150 – Spooktacular leotard + PowerKids holiday leotard (blinged!)

    •    $300 – Spooktacular leotard + PowerKids holiday leotard (blinged!) and Knott’s                                Berry Farm ticket

    •    $450 – Spooktacular leotard + PowerKids holiday leotard (blinged!) and Add a                                 second Knott’s ticket

•    $600 – Spooktacular leotard + PowerKids holiday leotard (blinged!) and Add a                           second Knott’s ticket and Professional photo package (optional add-on,                           otherwise available separately

•     $1000 – Spooktacular leotard + PowerKids holiday leotard (blinged!) and Add a                          second Knott’s ticket and Professional photo package (optional add-on,                            otherwise available separately), Choice of Birthday Party or a Voucher for a                    One Hour Class for a Session.
   

Every gymnast can participate no matter what — leotards and extras are simply rewards for families who choose to fundraise at different levels. For donors who need it, pledges can also be directed through the Coachella Valley Gymnastics Association 501(c)(3) for tax-deductible contributions (funds in that case go toward training, camps, and staff education).

 

🗓️ Date & Schedule

 

The showcase will take place on Sunday, October 26.

Check-in 

• Fantastic Flippers is from 3:40-3:55

• Junior PowerKids, PowerKids, Level 3, Level 4/5 is from 4:40-4:55

• Team levels 2, and Xcel Bronze is from 4:05-4:25

 

Because participation numbers vary each year, we will finalize group block times about 10 days before the event. Families will only need to attend their child’s block (approximately 60–75 minutes). If participation is very high, we may divide into two blocks to keep the flow smooth. Either way, you’ll know exactly when your child performs so you can plan dinner, bedtime, and other commitments with ease.

 

🤸 What the Kids Will Do

    •    Gymnasts perform follow-along Level 1 routines led by their coaches — no memorization required!

    •    While classes sometimes include a few extra supplemental beam skills for learning purposes, the showcase itself uses a simplified routine. Our staff will pull everything together so your child feels confident and ready to shine.

    •    Extra practice is not required. Kids will review in class, and free optional Friday rehearsals are available (led by Aftershock team volunteers).

    •    Shy or nervous kids are supported every step of the way — coaches are right there to guide them and ensure it’s a positive, confidence-building experience.

 

👀 Parent Viewing

 

We’ve heard your feedback, and this year we’re making it easier to see your child! Parents will join guided viewing groups, led by staff members, so you’ll be brought right up close for the best views and videos at each station. No fighting for seats, no straining from the back — just clear, personal moments with your child.

 

🏅 Medals & Keepsakes

 

Every gymnast will receive our traditional Spooktacular medal, a PowerKids tradition kids love to collect as part of their gymnastics journey. This is a celebration of courage, effort, and being part of our community.

 

🎃 Extras

 

We’re also exploring parent-requested add-ons like professional photos, videography, and concessions at the event. These will be optional purchases for families who would like them. More details to come.

The Desert Spooktacular has been a part of PowerKids for more than a decade, and we continue it because of the joy, pride, and memories it brings to families year after year. Final Details​

 

We can’t wait to celebrate our 11th annual Desert Spooktacular event with you this Sunday, October 26th!! Please review these final details carefully to help the evening run smoothly and safely for everyone.

 

🚗 Parking

Please park in the cul-de-sac or the Tax Assessor’s parking lot next to PowerKids on El Cerrito Road.

 

⏰ Athlete & Parent Check-In 

Fantastic Flippers: 3:40-3:55PM 

           • Parents will bring their gymnast to the front door to check in, then accompany them to the parent viewing section until they are called to their groups. 

 

Junior PowerKids, PowerKids, Level 3 & Level 4/5:  4:40-4:55PM

• Athlete check-in will take place outside the main doors.

• Upon arrival, athletes and parents will receive matching colored wristbands with either a Pumpkin or Skeleton, and a number, that identifies their assigned rotation group.

• After check-in, please release your athlete to a group leader who will take them to the rehearsal area.

• Each Parent group will have a dedicated parent concierge who will stay with the group throughout the event to help guide families and capture the best photo moments possible!

 

Please be patient as we carefully check in each participant to ensure a smooth start.

 

🌡️ Before Doors Open

Our young performers have been working hard and can’t wait to show you all they’ve learned! Each child wants to make their families proud, and this event is their special moment to shine. While they rehearse behind the scenes, our team and athlete volunteers will be there to guide, encourage, and help every child feel confident and ready for their big performance.

We know it can be a longer wait for families, so we’ve created a comfortable outdoor space within the Parent Parking lot Party area where you can relax, enjoy food and drinks, and spend time together while the gymnasts are preparing for the show. 

 

Spectator doors will remain closed to families until 3:40 (for Fantastic Flippers) and 5:15 PM (for all other Powerkids Levels) as our athletes put on their final touches and run through the show one last time behind the scenes. 

 

Remember, we live in a world where kids are often the spectators rather than the stars, so performing in front of a crowd can be a big step! That’s why we have the kids check in early and rehearse before the doors open, giving them time to settle in and feel prepared for their big moment in front of their parents. Please prepare your child ahead of time, as they may not be with, and likely will not be, with their regular coach during the event. With the help of our volunteers and your encouragement, every child will feel ready to take the floor 

 

💜 As this is a fundraiser event and there is not an admission fee, donations at the door are encouraged but not required. Your generosity helps keep Spooktacular free for all athletes each year!
 

👀 Spectator Viewing

We’re excited to introduce a new viewing experience this year!
 Athletes will perform in color-coded rotation groups that match their wristbands. Parents and spectators will follow their athlete from event to event, guided by clearly marked paths and their parent concierge.

To help keep the event safe and organized:

• Parents should follow their group concierge around the floor to stay with their athlete throughout the rotations.

• Follow only the marked walking paths when moving between events.

• Do not cross in front of or between equipment.

• Keep younger children away from all performance areas (unsupervised children will be asked to remain with their parent(s) )!

 

🧸 Preschool (Fantastic Flippers)

• Medals will be presented on the floor following their performance.

• Afterward, head outside for a less-spooky Boogie Bash Trunk-or-Treat!

 

🎃 Boogie Bash Trunk-or-Treat

We will be hosting two trunk or treats

• For our Fantastic Flippers we will have a Not So Scary Trunk or Treat, which will be after their performances and have received their medal. 

• We will also have a Later Trunk or Treat for our levels who perform later in the evening.

• **We ask that if you are performing later in the evening and arrive as the Not so Scary Trunk or Treat is going on, that you refrain from letting athletes or family members participate.

• 
Bring your own treat bag and enjoy a fun, festive way to end the evening!

 

💼 Personal Belongings & Appearance

Parents should hold onto all personal belongings — athletes cannot bring items (including shoes or water bottles) into the holding area. Water and light snacks will be provided by our volunteers.

Hair should be neatly tied up (fun Halloween styles encouraged!), and please avoid jewelry or loose hair that may fall into the face while performing.
